SYMPTOMS

Schedule a backup in Genie Backup Manager (GBM) but when the time comes for the backup, the error message “The job failed due to naming or permission errors. Please check that the job exists with the created name and of your account settings” comes up.

CAUSE

There are four causes for such an error:

Cause 1: A scheduled backup job has been deleted from GBM, but it is still listed in the Windows Task Scheduler.

Cause 2: A scheduled backup job has been renamed.

Cause 3: The scheduled task was created with user account details entered at the authentication process different than the ones used at the current log-in of Windows.

Cause 4: The backup job name contains one or more of the following characters:

\   /   |   *   :   <  >  .   ? “”

RESOLUTION

  • Case 1

Make sure that the scheduled tasks in the Windows Task Scheduler match the backup jobs under GBM as follows:

I. View the backups in GBM:

  • From GBM main windows → ToolsJobs Manager → A list of all the backups on your machine will appear.

II. View the tasks in your Windows Task Scheduler:

  • Type the word “schedule” in the search box on your taskbar, and then click on Task Scheduler in the results.
  • Click on Task Scheduler library in the left pane. A list of all the tasks on your machine will be shown in the middle of the window.

III. Look for GBM tasks which start with “GBM –” and delete the tasks that appear only in the task scheduler and do not appear in GBM (step I above).

  • Case 2

If you renamed a job from inside GBM, make sure to schedule it again in order for the Windows Task Scheduler to take the new name for this job.

  • Case 3

When a backup job is created under UserAccount1, then the catalog for it will be stored in:

C:\Users\UserAccount1\AppData\Roaming\Genie-Soft\GBMAPPLICATION\Jobs

While when the user creates the scheduled task and assign it to UserAccount2, GBM will look for the job under:

C:\Users\UserAccount2\AppData\Roaming\Genie-Soft\GBMAPPLICATION\Jobs

And so, the job will not be found. So please make sure to schedule the backup job using the same user profile where you have created it.

  • Case 4

Simply, remove these characters from the Backup Job Name, and then you can continue successfully.
