Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is Microsoft’s latest feature to backup open and locked files. Genie Backup Manager (GBM) utilizes VSS to back up open files without the need to install additional plug-ins.
In order to find the specific error you are encountering, please run the Windows backup utility from Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Backup, select a small test backup then after it finishes, click view report.
RESOLUTION
A. Click here to download the VSS Fix batch file, run it then reboot your system. Check if the problem is solved.
B. Check the following Services, by referring to:
- Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard in order to open the Run dialog → Type services.msc and hit Enter.
- Scroll down to the service COM+ Event System and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Manual → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK.
- Scroll down to the service COM+ System Application and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Manual → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK.
- Scroll down to the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Automatic → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK. (Note that this may not be possible if Windows Vista is being used)
- Scroll down to the service System Event Notification and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Automatic → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK.
- Scroll to the service MS Software Shadow Copy Provider (or Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider if Windows Vista is being used) and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Automatic → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK.
- Scroll down to the service Volume Shadow Copy and double-click it → Change the Startup type to Manual or Automatic → Click Start to check if it can start properly, then click OK.
- Then reboot your system.
