Genie Backup Manager (GBM) provides an easy, secure and reliable way to backup and restore the MS Exchange Server databases using advanced API technology. However during this operation, you might encounter problems, therefore; please review this checklist to find potential solutions.

  1. Ensure that esebcli2.dll file is copied to the following location: C:\Windows\System32
If MS Exchange is properly installed; however, you are unable to back it up using GBM, please make sure that the esebcli2.dll file exists in the following folder:

    C:\Windows\System32

When installing GBM software, it will automatically copy this file from the program folder Microsoft Exchange is currently installed in to C:\Windows\System32. However, if GBM fails to do so, it must be copied manually.

  2. Perform a full backup using GBM before proceeding with differential or incremental Backups
If a full backup is not performed on the storage group, you will encounter errors during the backup indicating that you must perform a full backup on the storage group before proceeding with incremental/differential backups.
  3. Ensure that you are restoring to the same Microsoft Exchange configuration you backed up from by the following aspects:
    • The Site name must be the same.
    • The Organization name must be the same (Case sensitive).
    • The storage groups must be configured the same (Case Sensitive), along with the original path and all the mailboxes.
    • Ensure that you install the same Exchange Service Packs that were existent on the previous server.
  4. Ensure the store is dismounted at time of restore.
  5. Ensure that this database can be overwritten by restore is checked.
  6. Restore in the same order the backups are created in.
