Introduction
Genie Timeline (GTL) provides a robust Disaster Recovery feature to perform system-level backups. This guide walks you through creating a Disaster Recovery backup, setting up a bootable disk, and restoring your system when needed.
Step 1: Create the Disaster Recovery Backup
- Launch the Genie Timeline application on your computer.
- Hover over Manage Backup and click Modify Data Selection.
- Navigate to the Smart Selection tab and ensure the Disaster Recovery option is selected.
- Save your changes.
- Hover over Tools and click Settings.
- Refer to the Advanced Settings section, locate the Perform Disaster Recovery Backups every option and configure the frequency as needed (the default for the Home edition is once a week).
Once done, Genie Timeline will back up your entire system drive (C:) to allow for complete system restoration based on the frequency specified.
Step 2: Create a Disaster Recovery Bootable Disk (One-Time Setup)
This step can be performed on any computer that has the Genie Timeline application installed on it.
- Launch the Genie Timeline application on your computer.
- Hover over Tools and click Disaster Recovery Startup Disk.
- Choose the Bootable Disk Type:
- USB Drive: Connect a USB drive to your computer, select the USB drive from the dropdown menu and click OK to create the bootable disk.
- ISO Image: Save the .iso file locally on your computer, then use an ISO-burning utility (e.g., Rufus) to create a bootable USB drive from the ISO file.
Step 3: Perform System Recovery When Needed
- Connect the drive containing the GTL backup to the computer requiring recovery.
- Boot Using the Disaster Recovery Disk:
- Insert the Disaster Recovery bootable disk created in Step 2 into the computer.
- Configure the computer to boot from the disk (adjust BIOS/UEFI settings if necessary).
- Follow the steps outlined in the Genie Timeline Disaster Recovery Guide to complete the system recovery process.
