Error Message: “Cmd:2A Sense:05 ASC:21 ASCQ:00” When Backing Up to CD/DVD

SYMPTOMS

Get this error when backing up to CD/DVD media:

“Cmd: 2A Sense: 05 ASC: 21 ASCQ: 00. Insert new disc”

 

CAUSE

This happens when the CD/DVD burner is faster or slower than the data rate.

 

RESOLUTION

To fix this problem you need to either speed up the rate in which your system delivers data, or slow down the rate of the burner. You can use both approaches as well.

To speed up and stabilize the data rate:

  1. Reboot your machine.
  2. Defrag the hard drive.
  3. Empty the temp files and cache first.
  4. Write your disc as an image to the hard drive first, and use this image to burn from.
  5. Stop other programs (anti-virus, etc.) from running while you’re burning.

 

To slow down  the burner speed:

  1. Open Genie Backup Manager → Edit Previous Jobs → Select the backup job which you are having the issue with.
  2. Refer to step 2. Where to Backup → Advanced Settings… → Choose a slower burn rate speed → OK.
  3. Save your backup job.
