When the backup job is spanned to multiple locations, some files can be split to these locations. These files will have a .00x extension appended their names and therefore inoperable if accessed directly.
You can perform the following to join these files:
Use the “Restore” option of Genie Backup Manager (GBM)
- Open your GBM software → Restore.
- Select the backup job which contains the wanted file(s) → Next.
- Browse the content of this backup job and select the file(s) you need to restore → Select the preferred Restore Mode → Next.
- Click Restore Now to start the restore.
This way, files split via GBM will automatically be rejoined when restored.
Extract from the Catalog
- Open your GBM software → Catalog.
- From the History of backup runs, expand the wanted backup job → Expand the wanted backup run → All Files.
- Select the wanted file(s) → Click the Extract Selected Items button → Select the location to where you need to save the extracted data → OK.
This way, files split via GBM will automatically be rejoined when extracted.
Join files using a join utility
If you are unable to restore or extract from catalog as explained under Method 1 and Method 2 tabs, you can download this join file utility and extract it. Then perform the following steps:
- Copy all the parts of the split files to one location.
- Rename the .00x extensions to .00(x+1); for example, if a file is split into two parts (Text.doc and Text.doc.001), rename Text.doc.001 file to Text.doc.002 and Text.doc to Text.doc.001
- Open the HJ-Split tool → Click Join.
- Click Input File and select the renamed .001 file (Text.doc.001 in the previous example) → Open.
- Click Start.
Applies to: Genie Backup Manager (GBM).
