Genie Backup Manager (GBM) uses Windows Task Scheduler to run the scheduled  backup jobs. However, under certain circumstances, Windows fails to run the scheduled tasks. Here are steps to troubleshoot scheduling issues.

– Run the backup job manually from GBM

Sometimes, the problem may be in the backup job itself. So, open your GBM software → Click the Run Backup option on the left-side panel → Select the backup job which you are having the issue with.

If you encounter problems in the manual run, please contact technical support.

– Check the schedule settings of the backup job

If your scheduled backups are running at different times than expected, or not running at all, check your schedule settings as follows:

  1. Open your GBM software → Edit Previous Jobs → Select the backup job which you are having the issue with.
  2. Refer to window 5. Schedule → Check the schedule settings there and make sure they are set as you need.
  3. Save your backup job and wait until the next scheduled time to see it it will be running or not.

– Run the job via the Windows Task Scheduler

  1. Open the Windows Task Scheduler from Control PanelAdministrative Tools → Double-click Task Scheduler.
  2. From the left-side panel of the Windows Task Scheduler, select Task Scheduler Library. Any GBM related task should be listed there in the following format:
    GBM - BackupName-BackupType
  3. Right-click on the task that is related to the backup job which you are having the issue with → Run.

If the backup does not start this way, then the issue is from the Windows Task Scheduler itself.

– Check the History of the task

Windows Task Scheduler shows you the history of the tasks. You can check and see it there are errors in this history as follows:

  3. Click on the task that is related to the backup job which you are having the issue with in order to select it → Refer to the History tab and check the events there.
  4. Events with errors will have a warning sign next to them. You can right-click on it and select the Event Properties option to get more information about the event. This way you can search the web with the error codes you are encountering and find fixes and workarounds for common errors.

– Schedule a task non- related to GBM

Use the Windows Task Scheduler to create a dummy task that is not related to GBM so you can identify if the problem is related to GBM or Windows.
